Folk art is the specialist here. Bright, warm, and genuinely able to fit a lot of people on one spread without any of them getting lost, which most styles cannot do. It also does not mind a slightly chaotic group photo, because heads at different heights and somebody blinking are close to how it already draws.

Studio Ghibli style suits a family whose year happened outdoors. It builds its mood from the landscape, so walks, weather and holidays give it more to work with than a living room.

Gothic storybook is the December choice for households whose taste runs colder than tinsel. Moonlit rather than merry, and better for it.

Low poly is the one a certain kind of twelve-year-old considers a compliment.

When you actually have to order

Earlier than feels necessary. The book is written, illustrated, proofed, approved, printed and shipped, and the last two steps belong to a printer and a postal service in their busiest month of the year.

Late November is comfortable. The first week of December is fine. Mid-December is a gamble that gets worse every day, and by the third week the honest advice is to order anyway and give it in January, when it will be the only present anyone remembers receiving.
