There is no right time to make one, some families order in the first weeks, others wait for what would have been a birthday. Photos and a few sentences about the person are all we need to start; you approve the proof before anything is printed.

- A few photographs where the face is clear, and one moment you want told. You do not have to summarise a whole life; a single sentence said in a kitchen, or a habit that returned every holiday, usually carries more.
- You set the tone
- The book can be light or quiet. The proof comes to you first. If you do not feel ready to read it, it can wait, and anything you want changed can be changed before it is printed.
